"We were amazed to discover the crater's age," Osinski added. "It predates dinosaurs, taking us back to a time when life on land was just beginning."
The crater, named Uhackatik in collaboration with the local Indigenous community, is a rare find. Globally, only a handful of new craters are identified each year, making this discovery a significant addition to Earth's geological record.
For Lapointe, the confirmation was a moment of elation. "It was real, and I felt a sense of awe," he said.
